Welcome to the Binalong Brahmans home page. Binalong (pronounced Byne-A-Long) is situated in southwest N.S.W, and is one of those smaller Rugby League supporting communities in Australia. This Club is reported as having played as far back as the early 1930's. The Brahmans played recently as a part of the Canberra Region Rugby League in the George Tooke Shield Competition in which we won the 2010, 2013 and 2014 Premierships. Previously the team competed in the Woodbridge Cup (Koorowatha Competition), where the Brahmans were Premiers for 1971 and 1991 defeating Burrangong 22-10, Binalong left the Woodbridge Cup in 1997, but now we return to Woodbridge Cup for 2015. During 2008 The Club was known as The Southwest Brahmans in a joint enterprise with Harden's Hawks.
The Brahmans did not compete in the 2012 George Tooke Shield season but then returned with a new team comprised of locally produced players and a group of imported team members in 2013. The Club expects to again be very competitive in the future but regrets it's annual clashes with neighbours and rivals Harden Hawks and Boorowa Rovers must be put on hold. However, wth a new team of "adopted locals", we take on a another challenge!
Now, with two undefeated seasons in 2013 and 2014 and the Premiership in our keeping (and the 2013/14/15 Minor Premierships won), we look forward to the early winter of 2015 to see if we can repeat the past years' performances and move on to a new challenge further north and west. We very much relish the chance to take on the Woodbridge powerhouses of Cargo, Peak Hill, Eugowra and Canowindra to test our strength against these Clubs. The Brahmans also enjoyed our very successful 40 year re-union in May 2014. Our current Captain/Coach for 2016 is Mr Ben Spencer. For 2014 we incorporated a womens touch-football competition as a "curtain raiser" for all games, our girls "The Jersey Girls" were the Minor Premiers and Premiers for 2014 having lost only one game to Harden's Hawkettes. The girls now step up to league tag with Sam Longmore coaching them. As an added feature, we now have a Youth League team of U'18's Coached by Ben Spencer and Peter Regan for 2015, without prefacing our intentions too much into the future, it is well known that we have plans for Woodbridge Cup in 2016.But for the present in 2015, we are all very confident that all three grades will feature strongly in the finals series! Our campaign begins in Condobolin. Results at Condo didn't go our way in lower grades but following week two we are back on track with wins over Grenfell. We now have our first grade team into the Woodbridge Cup GF and the lower grades in the elimenations at Eugowra. Sadly our Youth League team bowed out 27-26 to Peak Hill but our Jersey Girls join the Seniors for the Grand Final of 2015 at Young.
Unfortunately, our Jersey Girls lost their Woodbridge Cup Premiership dream 14-6 to Eugowra, but our First Grade side have now completed their third premiership in succession to become Woodbridge Cup Premiers for 2015, defeating Trundle's Boomers 30-28.
We now move on to 2016 and our continued participation in Woodbridge Cup and attempt to defend our Premiership. We will have some new players as we bid a fond farewell to some of our 2015 squad. Late in 2016 The Brahmans voted to return to George Tooke Shield in 2017.
